Mitchell Eugene Shook, age 93, passed away on Monday, August 07, 2017 at Sherrills Ford Hospice House. He was a loving husband and father.

Born September 30, 1923 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Knox A. Shook and Lula Sherrill Shook. Mitchell was an Army Air Corp veteran during World War II and served in England and Europe before returning to the United States. He was an active member of the VFW and served in numerous positions in that organization.

Mitchell Eugene Shook, age 93, passed away on Monday, August 07, 2017 at Sherrills Ford Hospice House. He was a loving husband and father.

Born September 30, 1923 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Knox A. Shook and Lula Sherrill Shook. Mitchell was an Army Air Corp veteran during World War II and served in England and Europe before returning to the United States. He was an active member of the VFW and served in numerous positions in that organization.

In addition to his parents, Mitchell was preceded in death by son-in-law, Edward Travis; brothers, Ross, Vester, Paul, Andrew, Oscar, Coyte and Joseph Shook; sisters, Renshell Barringer, Bessie Misenheimer and Catherine Hass.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Elsie Brown Shook; son, Brian Paul Shook and wife, Gail Benfield Shook; daughter, Deirdre Travis; grandchildren, Brian Paul Shook Jr. and wife, Angela Lowman Shook, Ryan Scott Shook and wife, Kerry, Jay Redford Shook, William Barrett Travis and wife, Dominique Dzioba Travis, Joy April Travis, Angela Roselie Travis and fiancé, Jonathan Holsclaw; great-grandchildren, Sierra Marie Shook, McKayla Elizabeth Shook, Jackson Conner Shook, Graeme Scott Shook, Kayla Leann Travis, His family would like to thank Brian Center of Viewmont and Sherrills Ford Hospice House for their care and service to Mitchell.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017 in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Cunningham of Catawba Valley Baptist Church officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #48.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service.
