Elizabeth Dellinger Goodin Massey, age 93, of Shelby, formerly of Newton, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at White Oak of Shelby in Shelby, NC.

Born November 10, 1921, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Broadus Dellinger and Blanche Hoover Dellinger.

She graduated from Fallston High School in Cleveland County and from there attended Crowell Hospital School of Nursing in Lincolnton, NC, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. Elizabeth Dellinger Goodin Massey, age 93, of Shelby, formerly of Newton, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at White Oak of Shelby in Shelby, NC.

Born November 10, 1921, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Broadus Dellinger and Blanche Hoover Dellinger.

She graduated from Fallston High School in Cleveland County and from there attended Crowell Hospital School of Nursing in Lincolnton, NC, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She began her career in nursing at Catawba General Hospital in Newton, NC, then Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory, NC, was the Director of Nursing Service at United Church Retirement Home, now Abernethy Laurels in Newton. She was also the Occupational Health Nurse for Ridgeview Mfg. Co. and later worked for and retired from Frye Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Massey was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton. She was a member of the North Carolina State Grange, the Home Extension Club, the Good Earth Garden Club, and Newton-Conover Business & Professional Organization.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Foy Goodin, whom she was married to from 1943 until his death in 1984; and second husband, Lloyd Massey, whom she was married to from 1995 until his death in 2013 ; brothers, Dwight Dellinger, Harold Dellinger, Glenn Dellinger; and sisters, Frances Williams and Marilyn Hoyle.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dianne Travis and husband, Gary of Shelby, NC and Kristina Dorsey of Conover, NC; four grandsons, Benjamin Travis of Shelby, NC, William Lutz of Lincolnton, NC, Robert Lutz of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Sigmon of Lincolnton, NC; one great-grandson, Joshua Lutz.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Newton, with Pastor Tommy Hullette officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Newton.

Pallbearers will be Ben Travis, William Lutz, Robert Lutz, Thomas Sigmon, and Josh Lutz.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m., at the church.
